The House system is rooted in British boarding school history. Quintessentially English, House traditions have become a rich vein for children´s school stories, from Tom Brown´s School Days (1857), and Enid Blyton´s Malory Towers (1946-51), to the Harry Potter books in our own time (1997-2007). Having been a boarding housemaster and had my school depicted in children´s fiction (Scorpia Rising, from the Alex Rider series), fact fused with fiction.
Our Edron Houses
We relaunched our Edron Houses this year, with new names and events, and new student leadership roles. All of our teachers and students are part of a House. The British Crown Jewels inspired the choice of Diamond, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire, the new names for our four Houses.
All pupils belong to a House whose shields symbolize the motifs of our unique school.
Affiliation, Achievement, Competitive Spirt
Our pupils wear their House shirts with pride, as they compete in a variety of staged events: artistic, musical, dramatic, sporting and so many more, such as the annual house quiz, earning House Points for varying endeavors. House Points are also awarded for outstanding student work and exemplary behavior, uniting individual achievement with collective success.
New roles, as Student House Captains, extend leadership amongst the student body and help us marshal the huge scope of skill and talent within our School. All teachers are affiliated to a House, suspending their expected impartiality, and promoting House loyalty and competitiveness. Digital display boards within Frog, our VLE, shine forth from our House pages with a weekly update of House point tallies, House fixtures and notable achievements.
We are proud to have the House system within our school, as it promotes our Edron Core Values of Empathy, Determination, Responsibility, Optimism and Drive.
