Welcome

To Secondary School at The Edron Academy

At our school every student is valued as an individual and encouraged to do their best. We truly believe that an excellent education is essential for ensuring that our students are happy and develop as individuals.

We offer a challenging and engaging academic experience, ensuring the best opportunities are presented to each of our students. As our world continues to change rapidly, we make sure our students have a stable environment at school, where they feel captivated and safe to learn.

Our academic team is composed of a diverse and international group of highly qualified teaching professionals. Our students have access to a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities. Excellent teaching and learning is at the forefront of what we do.

We offer comprehensive extracurricular and leadership opportunities for our students, allowing them to show their potential in many ways, from joining the Student Council or becoming one of our House Captains.

Our students truly enjoy their experience at our school – both inside and outside the classroom. A broad, balanced and carefully structured curriculum, combined with excellent teaching, and the highest standards of pastoral care, prepare them for the challenges of our modern world.

Our students are the personification of our school culture. They practise our school’s values by always showing respect, positive attitude, honesty, trust, responsibility and fairness in all they do.

Welcome once again.

Academic

Experience

Our secondary students experience a truly bilingual and bicultural environment and our academic programmes embrace the best of the British and Mexican educational systems.

Students in Key Stage 3 (from Years 7 to 9 ) experience a bespoke version of the English National curriculum and the Mexican SEP curriculum, tailored to meet the specific needs of our students. KS3 students experience fun and engaging lessons which promote creativity, critical thinking and collaboration. The focus during this important phase is developing not only the knowledge and skills required for each subject and beyond but also a love for learning.

When students move up to Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11), they study a programme based on the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) , whilst continuing to meet the requirements of the Mexican (SEP) curriculum. At IGCSE students study certain mandatory subjects but are also offered an element of choice through options, which allows for deeper study into specific academic areas.

At Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13), all students study for the bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This is a very academically challenging programme that is widely recognised around the globe and that provides fantastic preparation for higher education and beyond.

Our Edron Academy students are encouraged to not only do well academically, but also to pursue their passions and talents in different areas. They are happy and successful and we are very proud of their achievements.

The curriculum offered at our school is carefully planned to be broad and balanced, ensuring that our students learn not only the necessary content but also the skills and attitudes of learning.

Pastoral Care

Our Secondary School prides itself on the Pastoral care that we provide to our students. As a team, we work hard to instil our values and create a culture of respect, positive attitude, honesty, trust, responsibility and fairness. Our students feel looked after and this creates an environment where they feel safe to make mistakes.

Our pastoral care system consists of a whole-school system that is in place to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and happiness of our students. It encompasses areas such as attendance and behaviour, and it is there to ensure an environment that is conducive for learning. Our pastoral care team works hard to minimise disruption to learning and foster engagement and academic achievement.

The Pastoral system is overseen by our Head of Secondary and a team of three Key Stage Coordinators. Other key team members are our Form Tutors, who work tirelessly to support students with academic, pastoral and personal matters.

Another vital part of our pastoral system is our ASN team, which supports staff and students either via individual support on a case-by-case basis or with pupil workshops related to social and learning skills, for example.

Every secondary student is allocated a tutor group, which is led by a Form Tutor. Our Form tutors look after the pastoral, academic and social development of the students under their care. They work as mentors and will oversee the safeguarding and academic progress of each of their tutees. If our parents have a concern about their child, the Form Tutor should be the first point of contact.

Our pastoral care system aims to make every student feel happy and safe at school. We also want our students to be confident and accomplished individuals and for that we foster a culture of respect, in which individuals are valued for their unique character and qualities.

The Edron House System

At The Edron Academy, all students and staff belong to one of four Houses: Sapphire (Blue), Emerald (Green), Diamond (Yellow) and Ruby (Red). The House names represent the jewels from the British crown.

Students at the Edron Academy participate in numerous sporting, musical, academic and team-building House events throughout the year. All students have the opportunity to gain House Points for commitment to all areas of school life. All House Points gained help their house achieve the ultimate recognition of winning the annual House Cup.

The House System is a traditional feature of British schools and it fosters a sense of belonging and friendship. Our House system is used to promote healthy competition amongst our students and staff.

It gives our students a chance to excel in different areas and the opportunity to try new things. Students feel a great sense of pride for their House and siblings always share the same House. Each House has a House Master, as well as a student House Captain.
