Mathematics at the Edron

At Edron we make mathematics engaging, enjoyable and accessible for all. Our lessons are dynamic with a variety of approaches used to suit all learners. Students are encouraged to participate and take ownership of their learning as much as possible. As a team of energetic and fully qualified teachers with a wide range of experience from a number of schools in different countries, we work together to bring the best out of our students.

In Key Stage 3, we are revamping the curriculum, embedding the Teaching for Mastery concept as in the Primary School, so as to provide a smooth transition. We are also introducing Project Based Learning on a regular basis, where we can practise our mathematical skills while working collaboratively on tasks driven by the principles of sustainability.

In Key Stage 4, we follow the rigorous Cambridge IGCSE syllabi, with the majority of students being entered for the Extended course. For those who show particular ability and determination, there is the opportunity to take the IGCSE a year early and then take the Additional Mathematics course. This provides an excellent foundation for the next stage as it is a particularly demanding course.

For their IB, students can choose either Mathematical Analysis and Approaches or Mathematical Applications and Interpretations. The former is more “traditional” in its style, with a heavier emphasis on algebra and non-calculator work. The latter is more technologically driven, with real life applications emphasised. Both courses require a Mathematical Exploration as coursework.

Throughout our students’ learning journey, mathematics provides our students with an opportunity to use their logic, creativity, technological skills, and presentation. We aim to make mathematics at Edron a wholly positive experience for all!
